The hop is a small genus of flowering plants, deep–rooted to the temperate Northern Hemisphere. It is found in most countries of the North temperate zone. Its a hardy, perennial herb which gives annual vines from a permanent crown. Vines may mature up to 25 feet in a single season but will die back to the crown each fall. Hops have separate male and female organs. Only the female produces the flowers that are used for brewing or medicinal purposes.The female blossoms, commonly known hops , are used as flavoring and stabilizers during beer brewing . Male plants have no market value, but are used to pollinate females.
Benefits and Uses Hops
Dried female hops have a mild sedative impact on the central nervous system. It is used as a tea too. Hops is used to support restful sleep, stress and anxiety. Hops pillows may feel relaxing by working on the olfactory center and thus on the central nervous system through the limbic system.
Hops has been used with some success in the reduction of premature ejaculation. Recent scientific studies supporting the claims for its use in dysmenorrhoea and amenorrhoea as an anti–oxytocic property. Hops may also be used as a poultice. Its antibacterial qualities also may stimulate gastric juice production.
