Essential Oil - Cedarwood
Botanical name: Juniperus virginiana
Color: Light yellow
Perfumery note: Base
Consistency: Medium-thick
Related Planets/Deities: Sun (some sources say Jupiter)/YHVH/Male deities
Aroma: Woody, gentle, mildly spicy.
Energetic Properties: Earthy, noble, masculine.

Aromatherapy Properties: A colorless or pale yellow liquid with a sweet, balsamic scent almost like 'pencil wood'. It blends well with patchouli, spruce, vetiver, pine and leather-type scents. One of the oldest aromatics known from the famous 'Cedars of Lebanon.' The oil can be added to sachets placed in areas where clothing is stored to drive away insects that like to eat cotton and wool, or to revitalize older cedar chests that have dissipated their scent over time.

Spiritual Uses: Often used in charms to attract increased wealth, Cedar is sometimes also associated with sexuality and love. It is particularly useful in creating grounding and cleansing negative energies.

Blends well with: A versatile oil, Cedarwood may be blended with Frankincense for a meditative scent, with Eucalyptus and Patchouli for an exotic, uplifting scent, or with Chamomile and/or Jasmine for a relaxing, sensual scent.

History: One of the oldest aromatics known from the famous 'Cedars of Lebanon', Cedarwood oil was possibly the first essential oil to be extracted from a plant and was used as a base for paints by the ancient Sumerians. It was used by the ancient Egyptians, as a cleansing agent, as part of mummification, to cleanse their temples, and as an ingredient for cosmetics. It has been used by Native Americans as an insect repellent, and cedar leaves are burned as part of rituals - it is said that the smoke carries prayers to the Great Spirit.

Perfect for use with our Ceramic Oil Burners as well. These oils are sold for aromatherapy purposes only.
Essential Oil - Patchouli
Botanical name: Pogostemon cablin
Color: Medium amber
Consistency: Medium-thick
Perfumery note: Base
Related Planets/Deities: Earth/Gaia
Aroma: Richly complex, earthy-woody, spicy, exotic
Energetic Properties: Grounding, regenerative, detoxifying

Aromatherapy Properties: Patchouli oil is an amber to dark orange-colored viscous liquid with a sweet, rich, herbaceous-earthy odor that improves with age. It blends well with bergamot, cedarwood, cinnamon bark, clary sage, clove bud, geranium, labdanum, lavender, myrrh, neroli, oakmoss, opoponax, rose, sandalwood, vetiver, and oriental base oils. A musky aroma that lingers. With its sensual and grounding properties, Patchouli both soothes and uplifts the spirit.

Patchouli is one of the world's most popular essential oils and is used heavily as a perfumery component. It is widely worn by itself as a personal scent for its exotic provenance and down-to-earth appeal.

Spiritual Uses: As one of the most basic and powerful earth scents, Patchouli has a variety of magical and spiritual uses. Patchouli is a popular component of money spells, and is also a favorite ingredient for sex magick practices. It has a regenerative and restorative essence, and is an excellent choice for grounding spiritual work. Patchouli is commonly used for magickal protection, banishing negative energies, and purification. As the earthiest of  all the Earth scents, it is useful for those working with the element of Earth.

Blends well with: Lavender, Myrrh, Sandalwood, Cedarwood, Rose, Cinnamon, Ginger, Copal, and Cypress.

History: Found in the wilds of Sumatra and Java, Patchouli has long been used in Asia for a wide variety of purposes: it was though to be an antidote to snake venom and a remedy for headaches. During the 18th century, silk traders from China traveling to the Middle East packed their silk cloth with dried patchouli leaves to prevent moths from laying eggs on the cloth, thus bringing Patchouli to the West from Asia. Supposedly, Patchouli was used as both a fragrance and insect repellent in the linen chests of Queen Victoria. Patchouli is now widely cultivated in India for the worldwide essential oil market.

Perfect for use with our Ceramic Oil Burners as well. These oils are sold for aromatherapy purposes only.

Calamus Root Cut & Sifted
Calamus is quite common in Manipur and the Naga Hills of India and is found on the edges of lakes and streams. The root is attributed with an intensely aromatic fragrance that resembles a mixture of ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg. In ancient times it was even used as a cinnamon substitute in ritual incenses. In Ayurveda, calamus is considered an aromatic, bitter tonic which stimulates digestion. Similar in appearance to ginger, calamus root's sweet smell has made it a key component in perfumes.

Be careful when choosing the Calamus root you buy. You can find plenty of calamus from China and India. Our Calamus is hand gathered in the Oregon wilderness and brought to you in unadulterated form. There are many varieties available. Our calamus is always American Calamus (Americanus), which grows only in the northern United States. Acorus calamus var. Americanus contains plenty of Alpha-asarone, but it lacks significant amounts of  Beta-asarone, which is suspected of being carcinogenic.*
