Hops are a well-documented sedative. Just 2-3 of these 350mg, all-vegan gelcaps may be beneficial for mood swings, stress and anxiety. Studies have shown Hops to be a hypnotic, promoting sleep without disturbing alertness. This is one of only two plants in the genus cannabinaceae with the other being, as the generic name suggests, the Cannabis plant, so its effects are not surprising
Hops are a climbing vine which can grow to 20 feet. The word hops comes from the Anglo Saxon hoppan which means 'to climb'. It is member of the hemp family and was once thought of as being dangerous because it was noticed that harvesters fell asleep while gathering them! Hops are also sometimes found in combination products with Passion Flower (Passiflora incanata), Scullcap, or with a high percentage of alcohol (up to 70% grain alcohol), making the association between the herb and possible sedative or hypnotic effects more complex.
