The Xhosa call the plant "undela zimmhlope" which translates as "white ways" or "white paths." The Xhosa use the roots of this plant to induce prophetic dreams and to communicate with ancestral spirits. Also carries the name "ubulawu." There is a story with this used as a saponifying diviner's plant. In the Xhosa Tribe, if you hear someone say they need to see the diviner, it means they need to go see the healer. The diviner is the Xhosa's healer. Diviners help the people in the tribe with phsycological, physical, mental, and medical illnesses. The diviners are mostly women. They wear a shawl and headdress of fur most of the time.It takes about five years of being an assistant to a diviner until you become on yourself.
