Zornia latifolia
|
Zornia latifolia is currently gaining attention in the ethnobotanical community after hiding in the jungles of Peru and Brazil, as well as among the Pima peoples of northern Mexico, where leaves and flower buds have traditionally been used as a sedative, a relaxant, and a sleep-inducer. This reference comes from the famed text Plants of the Gods (Schultes and Hofmann, 1992). Experience from traveling in South America showed us that it is indeed known by indigenous and traditional people in Peru and Brazil. Seed pods as well as leaves have active properties. Euphoric states are reported while awake and vivid dream activity is reported when sleeping, this along with purported muscle relaxant properties. Zornia’s recent attention seems largely due to the fact that it is an ingredient in some of the more popular herbal incense blends. Like Bay Bean (Canavalia maritima/rosea), Zornia is considered a good and versatile mixing herb. Do not be tempted to dismiss Zornia as a mere "substitute" herb, instead it should be regarded as a true entheogen! We are proud to be one of the few privileged vendors of this natural rarity! |
