Shankhapushpi (Convolvulus pluricaulis) - this morning glory-like perennial grows on the plains of India. Practitioners of Ayurveda (India's holistic medical system) use it to treat the nervous system, much like the herbs kava-kava and valerian are prescribed by herbalists in the West. Herbalists believe that Shankhapushpi calms the nerves by regulating the body’s production of the stress hormones adrenaline and cortisol. This natural chemical composition in shankhapushpi is said to help the brain calm down and relieve tension, which is why shankhapushpi is also used traditionally for those who suffer from insomnia. Shankhapushpi is also used to treat nervous debility (loss of strength), fatigue, low energy level, and memory loss. 

Just when we thought we experienced the best that Sacred Lily had to offer, we’ve got a new absolute oil that has surpassed our expectations.  This rare plant known as Nymphaea rubra (Red Lily) is gentler in aroma, and somewhat more intense in the tangibly pleasurable effects that the Lily family has become famous for.  We still highly recommend any of our absolute oils, but this one is a personal favorite of mine. 

I prefer to be wooed into the experience, with a gentle descent into all that Sacred Lily has to offer, and our Red Lily fits the bill perfectly.  The aroma is less intense than any other of our Sacred Lily products, but the effects and aromatherapy value is far from gentle.
