It's often difficult to find music to meditate by that doesn't have a "New Age" sound to it, and although those albums have their place, we try to find musc and sounds that are made to be used alongside teacher plants and spiritual journeying of a different shade. This is where Anugama especially comes in. Anugama is from Cologne, Germany. Spending a great deal of his youth working in a music shop in Hamburg, he was surrounded by a vast array of musical instruments. When he reached his twenties, he had an irresistible urge to travel, and this eventually led him to Asia, where he settled for many years, developing his unique musical style with a strong focus on creating music to journey to.
Inspired by so many different cultures, Anugama has become a skillful multi-instrumentalist. He’s fascinated by the way in which different frequencies create music and the way these frequencies can affect our whole being, especially when seeking deep meditation or healing. His music is lush with natural sounds and subtle rhythms, and in my personal meditation sessions where I frequently travel outside of my body, Shamanic Dream is often my “aural anchor”, gently swaying somewhere off in the distance, acting as a beacon when I need to find my way back to this human frame.
Most of the his music is very mantra-based, with flowing pieces that last 20-40 minutes each, and even the “songs” themselves flow from one into the other subtly and gently, so as not to call attention to the music itself, further allowing it to be a vehicle that simply helps to guide and transport you on your journey. Radiating through all of his music is a joyous love of life and a deep sense of peace, and that resonates clearly whenever you listen to it.

For us, Bluetech needs no introduction; they are one of our all-time favorite "bands." Personally, my two "traveling" staples have always been Magic Sound Fabric and Bluetech, and now it's become a personal endeavor for us as well: Evan is an incredibly unique individual who's thinking and vision we hold in high regard. His music is a perfect reflection of that unique perspective his has for the world around him, and the organic, soothing nature of his music is a perfect reflection.
As Somnia says: "Bluetech returns with his first new material since 2005. After splitting his musical expression into multiple aliases, phoenix rising marks his return to eclectic, ecstatic, and emotional electronic music, and exists as a precursor to an expansive album entitled the divine invasion coming early 2009 on aleph zero records. It's music incubated in dreams, flows of energy from ancestral sources, the shape of the wind."

Opening with a menagerie of wildlife sounds broken only by the occasional rumble of the flamenco guitar, musician and composer The Brave, the man behind B-tribe, foreshadows what to expect on SPIRITUAL SPIRITUAL. As the album's title implies, the music on this release is reverently inspired with heavy mood-enhancing ambience augmented by choir-like wordless vocals, a light layer of percussion and the aforementioned flamenco guitar. Understated renditions of classical pieces from Albinoni and Rodrigo add to the album's sense of refinement, while pieces like "Sa Vedra" and "Sketches of St. Anthony" exhibit an organic flair that nicely complements the spacious electronic soundscapes that give the songs their structure. The "Buddha Lounge" is jumpin' again! Or, maybe chilling would be a better word. BUDDHA LOUNGE II picks up were the first installment left off, featuring eleven delectable slices of ethnic electronica tied together by a healing theme. Unlike the first album, part II is is a tad more mellow and introspective. Indian vibes open the album, but before long, everything from Gypsy Flamenco to Native American flute to didgeridoo comes into the mix, giving the album a very diverse feel. Once again, this excursion in the "Buddha Lounge" is a winner, and will surely gain the favor of worldbeat aficionados and those who enjoyed the first release. The high chanteuse of chant, Deva Premal is a pillar of originality in the grand garden of Indian music. You might say that she's to Sanskrit Mantras what Enya is to Celtic music. Her smooth soulful voice, which resides in the lower octaves, haunts atmospheric, lightly rhythmic, ethereal soundscapes skillfully crafted by her partner Miten. Together they take listeners on a journey into the depths of the soul that doesn't forget to make a stop at the heart. The music's easy on the ears, spiritually provocative and contains enough mass appeal to make even the yoga-phobic stir. Throw in a duet with Jai Uttal ("Om Ram Ramaya") and you have an album that will get anyone's chakras in an uproar. We are extremely proud to offer more music from Bluetech's Evan Bartholomew. "Secret Entries Into Darkness" brings another example of sonic storytelling to Somnia, moving from atmospheric float into pulsing minimal electroid rhythms. Evan's got a unique perspective on downtempo music, masterfully blending organic rhythms that only deepen the more times we listen to it here at the shop. Outside of the shop, it's a staple for helping to guide us on our meditative and shamanic journeys, often personally acting as the anchor to help bring me back to my body when traveling.
As Somnia describes this CD: "Fractaline analog grooves and micro beat construction establish a hypnotic base for a composed layer of ambient exploration to unfold. Presenting a balance of analog modular synth elements and complex dsp processing, 'secret entries into darkness' further's somnia's approach to cinematic modern music." We couldn't agree more.

James Asher, a well-known keyboardist in the ambient/new age music field, has always had a first love for the drums. On FEET IN THE SOIL Asher provides listeners with rhythms of infectious, hypnotic and tribal quality joined by didgeridoos, voices, djembe, darabuk, flute, cello, guitars, percussion and more. The two tracks that form the bookends of this album were inspired by Pemulwuy, an Aborigine, whose name means "earth." The tracks in between are an uplifting celebration on danceable energies centered in the earth. Kick off your shoes and get your feet into the soil! Karunesh continues his explorations of spirituality and Asian mysticism with his third release. The multi-instrumentalists flair for melodies that are lightly rhythmic, a tad melancholic and focused on Asian instruments like bansuri flute, tabla and Indian violin once again in showcased with this album of dreamy sonorities. The album is meant to create an atmosphere conducive to stillness and meditative healing practices. To that end, it definitely makes you want to sit back, relax and ponder your spirituality for about 50 minutes. The overall sound and feel of the album is very similar to what you've heard on his previous albums for Real Music; no surprises here, just quality meditation music. As the artist says: With this album, I wanted to focus on the essence of melody and expose it in a raw form through the electronic medium. The source of the main melodies came from repetitive hooks I found myself sporadically singing or humming during day to day business. Think of the joyful tunes whistled during a walk. These melodic mantras seem to pop up out of nowhere and go on repeating forever.
When I'd notice this, I'd hang onto the melody until I could get to the studio and bang it out, no matter how obvious or straightforward it was. Once the main melodies and inflections were out, I could carefully construct an audio bedding for them and see where it led. from a larger perspective, I felt that the search for these melodies was similar to unearthing subconscious archetypes that drive reality. The process was like discovering an ever-flowing undercurrent of reality that can be translated directly into melody.
in this case, it felt that the source of them all must absolutely be love.” - kilowatts

In the pantheon of Indian chanters, it's doubtful that you will find one more illustrious and esteemed than Krishna Das. With each kirtan, he inspires people around the world to trade material desires for spiritual enlightenment. BREATH OF THE HEART features Krishna Das' tried and true blend of music - Indian tablas and harmonium mixed together with Western instrumentation like guitar, cello and violin. The list of supporting artists reads like a whose who of contemporary Indian music: Wah! on harmonium, Benjy Wertheimer on Esraj, Lili Haydn on violin, Ty Burhoe on tabla, Steve Gorn on bamboo flute, among others. The results of this ensemble are quite fruitful - BREATH OF THE HEART is a harmonically pleasing, life-affirming offering of chant music. With its natural rhythmic tendencies and a penchant for lyricism the album, works as an ideal primer for the kirtan novice and an uplifting excursion for the seasoned fan. by Robert Gass & On Wings Of Song A mantra, or chant, often starts out up in the head, where you’re thinking about it. You think about the word—how to say it or what it means. Then the word begins to go down the throat, into a physical experience of the sound itself. Next it starts to move down into the heart. And, eventually, it becomes the engine that’s running you. You’re not singing the sound—the sound is singing you, bringing you closer and closer to another plane of consciousness. SOUND CLIP Om Namaya, Om Click here for more info...

Surprisingly powerful and extremely moving, THE PRAYER CYCLE from Jonathan Elias is an album of harmonic voices singing in unison of the joy and pain that exists in our world. The album consists of nine movements, each fleshed out by the lush baroque instrumentation of the English Chamber Orchestra. The album's main attraction, however, is the vocals. Quite the diverse line-up, the album features Alanis Morissette singing in Hungarian and French, Malian singer Salif Keita, late superstars Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Ofra Haza, Linda Ronstadt, the beautiful sounds of the American Boy Choir and many others. Despite the marquee names, nobody grandstands on this album - it's a group effort, a choral work for the new millennium that conveys passionate spirituality without focusing on any particular religion. Master of hypnotic grooves, Prem Joshua blends the flavors of the East with Western sensibilities on DANCE OF SHAKTI. Powerful mantras, electrifying sitar, vocals, bamboo flutes and a variety of Eastern instrumentation are accentuated with a funky electronic beat structure that instantly entrances the listener. The album begins with "Bolo Hari," a rhythmic selection whose danceable grooves flow with exotic mysticism. Other highlights include the quieter, more thought-provoking "Secret Place" and the urban ambiance of "Himalaya Trance." SOUND CLIP HERE Click here for more info...

We are not fans of typical "New Age" music, and although this CD has sometimes been compared to "New Age" music, it is anything but that. It is one of our favorite chant CD's to put on when we want something more musical and melodic, rather than brash and clanging as many chant CD's can be. It blends Wetern synth sounds with the soothing melodies of Tibetan lama Gyurme. SOUND CLIP HERE Click here for more info...
